What's for dinner?

When my children were little, I used to fix many things green for dinner on St. Patrick's Day. The famous green Jello salad, green beans, etc. I also would color the milk green and the rice green.

When I discovered that I enjoyed it more than the children, I stopped doing it. But this is what would be found for dinner on St. Patrick's Day long ago.

I have even colored bread green, but I didn't have time to bake bread today, so Russ just got the enjoyable green-colored rice and milk with the rest of his dinner tonight.

Did I mention that I also made this colorful table cloth? Happy St. Patrick's Day!

This is so much fun. It was a tradition in my family for my mom to cook an Irish meal, corn beef brisket and cabbage, boiled potatoes and more. It is one of my very favorite meals. I have tried this several times for my kids, and Tom and alas, I'm the only one who truly enjoys it. So - this year, I have done practically nothing, short of buying the kids store bought sugar cookies with green frosting! Oh well, Easter is coming and I love everything about Easter!

Mom, I remember all the green food fondly. In fact, I thought about it at the last minute yesterday afternoon and came up with a green eggs and ham quiche. The kids loved it! After it was all eaten David said I should have taken a picture of it.

I thought of all my great green meals on cute green tablecloths last night at bedtime when Carter remembered it was St. Patrick's day. It's been one of those weeks. I am a bad mom.

this is one of those anecdotes i can always pull out to prove my mom was "full throttle." a lot of moms would not "push the envelope" of a marginal holiday like that (see bad mom julie). it makes me happy to know you enjoyed your work :)

BAD MOM? JULIE?? I don't think so. Bad Mom is coloring their beer green for them. And I have to admit that I knew it was St. Patties Day, didn't color anything green, or even dress the baby in green. But we both wore green the next day and I have been inspired to have green rice next year. Always next I suppose:)
